New Gym Shoes FTW

mizun782269_411962_jb1Oh yeah, new gym shoes are on their way! My current gym shoes are my Mizuno Wave Sayonara’s that I can’t wear to run because they are a low profile shoe and my knee needs way more stability. Since I couldn’t run in them they became my gym shoes. Well, they are starting to fall apart and there are little holes where my toes hit.
I really like a low profile running shoe as my gym shoe. They are comfortable and I do love me some Mizuno!
My new ones are the Mizuno Wave Sayonara 3. The third generation of my current gym shoes seems like a good idea.
They’ll be here on Thursday and I can’t wait to try them out! Plus, I got a bomb deal on them for only $45, and I can’t pass that up!

What kind of shoes do you lift in?

Let’s Do This Trader Joe’s

I have been off a day this entire week. I haven’t known the actual day off the top of my head at all.
Life has been…chugging along. Not great, not horrible, just moving.
I have been going to the gym regularly and not running regularly at all. I know for a fact that running drastically less has increased my speed by over 1:00 mpm. I’ll take that anyday! I do miss running as much, but when my speed has increased that much, I kinda want to focus on that along with my weights.

Trader Joe’s has been calling my name lately. A lot. I am planning a November trip up to Ann Arbor to buy all of the things.
Here are a few of the items that I am going to check out and, let’s be honest, most likely, purchase.

Have you tried any of these things?
Will I die if I don’t buy one of them?
And don’t tell me to buy the delicious staples like cookie butter…those kinds of things are ALWAYS on the list.

Diet-to-Go Review and 25% Off Coupon Code

March is here and I am still trying to figure out where January went, let alone February. I am happy that I don’t make any New Year’s Resolutions, because I am far too busy right now to even consider keeping them! I am too busy right now to get anything worthwhile done around the house. When I am overwhelmingly busy like this, I like having my ducks in a row at home. I plan clothes, meals and certain activities in advance so I don’t have any surprises to contend with.

In January, during one of my busiest weeks, I relied on Diet-to-Go meals to get through the week so I didn’t even have to plan my meals in advance. I had five days of breakfasts, lunches and dinners to select from. I am a big believer in quick meals and I am an even bigger believer in a quick meal that is actually good for you. Diet-to-Go is a company that delivers (literally) quick and healthy meals to keep you moving in the right direction.

I had five days of low fat meals to help me through a busy week and I was thankful for them! The new dinner item I tried was Turkey with Asparagus Risotto with vegetables on the side. The vegetables were crisp and fresh and the risotto was creamy and had a lot of asparagus spears in it!2015-02-10 19.06.03A lot of people see a meal-delivery company as something only people who are ‘dieting’ need. Diet-to-Go offers three different menu plans to select from: low fat, vegetarian and low carb. I have tried all three plans and I don’t have a favorite because they all bring something different to the plate. These meals are also good for people who don’t have time to grocery shop, or cook meals for themselves. Not only are they healthy, fresh meals, they are actually delicious! The stigma of delivered, frozen meals is that they are just like the frozen meals you buy at your local grocery store. This is not the case here at all.

If you want to order your own Diet-to-Go meals to try out for yourself you can save 25% with my coupon code: DTGA111. This code is good for the first order of ANY meal plan! If you have allergies or other dietary issues, you can also relay those to Diet-to-Go and they’ll help you to make sure your meal plan works with your specific needs.

Have you ever visited Diet-to-Go? Which meal plan you would like to try?

From 75* to 0* in Three Hours

That is the temperature swing I had yesterday. 75* to 0*. I was in Tampa and Ft. Myers for work events over the weekend and the weather was fantastic. I generally don’t like the heat in any way, but the temperature was just perfect for me in Florida. When I left Detroit on Friday morning the temperature was -12* and that wasn’t even the wind chill temp. Yesterday when I came home I had that 75* temperature shift within three hours.
Funny thing is that I walked into the 0* weather in a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie. When you live in the cold for so long you get desensitized to it in a way.

On Saturday I had a great five mile run. Only one mile from my moms house in Florida is a great park with walking trails and a short causeway out to a beach. I stopped and took so many pictures that my minutes per mile was higher than normal. My lungs were on fire for the first mile. My heart was acting weird and in response I couldn’t breathe very well. After I got through that, everything was great. I had never actually run on the sand before because the soft sand (and grass and trails) has too much give for my knee. I need stable footing to enjoy my runs. The sand was perfectly packed from the tide receding so I took full advantage. 2015-02-23 14.32.35

During my run it was 55*, which is over 65* warmer than when I left Toledo, so this felt like heaven! The Floridians are hilarious…they were wearing puffy winter coats and hats and gloves, haha! I know that you get acclimated to the area where you live, but it is funny seeing people think that 55* is cold. I got to try out my new FlipBelt during my run. I like the storage that it provides for sure. But I didn’t like how the belt kept sliding up. It started around my hips then always ended up near my natural waist. Ugh. I guess these belts don’t work well with an hourglass shape. I’ll give it a few more tries until I form a final opinion.
The beach was amazing, I had such a great run around the beach and I took the time to enjoy the warm air and beautiful views. Funny, seeing my calf pop through there makes me happy! This is a good reminder to work more on my shoulders and back.

2015-02-23 14.25.44My Mizuno Wave Paradox shoes have never steered me wrong and they were great on the beach on Saturday. If I lived near a beach like this I would run there every single day.

2015-02-23 14.28.12But now I am back to the frozen tundra that is NW Ohio and I have a high temperature of 21* to look forward to this week. Nothing says welcome home like a negative wind chill temperature.

What is the weather like where you are?
Are you taking advantage of it?

Sweaty Betty Running Clothes

I love new workout clothes. They represent the determination I have to continue running and weightlifting. They represent my future and my past workouts. And to be honest with you, what girl can resist new women’s running clothes to help on the path to her goals? Not this one, that’s for sure.

Northwest Ohio has some extreme weather, no matter what the season. In the summer we can have 90*+ temperatures and in the winter we can have highs that hover around 0*. It can be brutal either way. Personally, I would rather run in the cold than in the heat, but there is a limit to the cold I will run in. This is another reason why weightlifting is so fantastic…it is indoors, no matter what the outside temperature is.

When the temperature hovers around 5* and the wind is gusting at 25 mph it is hard to remember running in the heat of summer. I try to keep myself inspired.  I like to window shop online for gear that can’t be found in my area and I found a few things that would convince me to get out the door a little more often in the winter!

Sweaty Betty’s Heart Rate Run Merino Top
shirt

I wear a gaiter over my nose and mouth for cold weather running. This ladies running jacket has a detachable gaiter-like collar that would transition nicely from the crisp fall air to the chill of winter. This is a heat-regulating merino top and it’s naturally anti-bacterial. There are also thumbholes in the sleeves. What runner doesn’t love some thumbholes??

For when the temperature drops below freezing the Sweaty Betty All Weather Protector Jacket would be a nice choice to keep the frozen air at bay.
jacket
When it comes to outdoor training in my area, having a waterproof outer layer is crucial to keeping warm and dry during runs. The sleeves of this ladies running jacket feature a reflective geometric print and also a hood with draw cords to keep it tight on your face for protection. The hood can also pack away into the jacket if you prefer to not use it. I don’t currently have a true winter running jacket and I have window shopped this one enough that it is something I know I would love to have.

I have built a great running and weightlifting wardrobe over the years, but I am always on the lookout for something new to inspire my next run!

Special K Brownies Review

Wait. Special K makes Brownies?
Oh, yes they do! And they are seriously delicious. Special K has a huge line up of dessert treats that taste excellent and can help you snack smart as you ease into the new year.
Do you have a New Year’s resolution to lose weight or eat healthier?
Do you have a goal to eat less and treat your body right?
Then these are the snacks that you should stock in your pantry. When you reach for a desserty snack, you can rest easy knowing that they are perfectly-portioned so you won’t have a huge serving!
Special K offers Pastry Crisps, Moments, Fudge Dipped Pretzels and the new Brownies.

Special K had me try their new Special K Chewy Snack Bars last month and they are a new staple for my snacking in the new year. I have been pairing one with some fruit or even a vegetable for a nice afternoon snack. But, I am someone who lives for desserts. It is a very rare occasion that I turn down something desserty. You can say that these brownies didn’t last long. I actually didn’t even share them with the family…I hid them for myself! Desserty snacks are my jam.

The Special K Brownies come in two delicious flavors: Divine Fudge and Heavenly Caramel.

These new Brownies are made with real cocoa, chocolate or caramel chips, and topped with a drizzle of chocolate fudge…all for only 80 calories per bar! Any Brownie that is made with real ingredients and has only 80 calories is one for me.

The Divine Fudge Brownie….

The part of the Heavenly Caramel Brownie that I didn’t eat…

In all honesty, when I first opened the box and saw the size of the Brownies, I was a little worried. I like to essentially gorge myself on my desserts. And this size made me think that I would want a few to feel satisfied.
image2But, they are packed with flavor and I didn’t feel like I wasn’t getting a large enough desserty snack. It was just big enough to be a nice treat. The Brownies are very soft, and while I love some crunchy brownie ‘crusts’ with a mushy middle, these are just like the mushy middle brownies to me. Did that make sense to anyone? I did hide the brownies from my family, but I did share one of each flavor with a friend who eats Special K Pastry Crisps every single day as an afternoon dessert snack. Seriously, every single day. She fell in love with these and found them in the store last week. This is one of her new afternoon dessert snacks.

When do they hit the shelves? NOW!
I found the new Special K Brownies on display at my grocery store! They were next to the new Special K Chewy Snack Bars!2015-01-10 13.09.06-1

If you want more information about Special K and all of their deliciousness you can visit them on Facebook, Twitter and you can always go straight to the source at their website!

Which flavor of Special K Brownie do you most want to try?
My favorite flavor is the Heavenly Caramel, not to say that the Divine Fudge wasn’t good, but the caramel chips were a nice addition to a brownie!

Mizuno Wave Rider 18 Review

This post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Mizuno. All opinions are my own and are awesome.

It is no surprise that I have been busy. I haven’t been able to participate in so many of the things that I love to do. Running included. After I reviewed the Mizuno Wave Sayonara’s through FitFluential last summer, I was hooked. I went on and bought a pair of Mizuno Wave Paradox running shoes, and I haven’t been happier. My feet are happy, my knee is happy, and my brain is happy.

Mizuno had a new shoe launch in October, the Wave Rider 18. When I received the Wave Sayonara’s, they ended up being too minimalist for me. After five knee operations on the same knee, I know my limitations and what makes my knee happy. Unfortunately, my knee likes more support. I use my Wave Sayonara’s for walking and weight lifting now. But I needed new shoes, so I had my local running store order me a pair of Wave Paradox running shoes. They offer more support and that made my knee very happy. The Wave Paradox are the best running shoes I have ever owned. Seriously.

My close second favorite running shoe is the Wave Rider 18. I have run and walked in these shoes and the support is great for my knee, my feet feel great after a run and the colors are fun! They come in Black/Silver/Florida Keys, Blue Atoil/Silver/Blue Depths and White/Fuchsia Purple/Turbulence. I was sent the Black/Silver/Florida Keys color.

Here are all of my Mizuno shoes together. Left to right: Wave Paradox, Wave Rider 18 and Wave Sayonara. On the bottom pictures you can see the different heel drops on each shoe. You can easily tell which one is minimalist and which offers the most support.

2014-11-01 08.48.45

Again, you can see them all lined up below. I just thought it was great to see them all together, to see the differences in the shoe styles and aesthetics.  Mizuno offers Wave Technology and provides a stable ride from landing to toe-off. This technology also offers maximum responsiveness and provides just enough support for your run.

The Dynamotion Fit technology relieves the stress the foot naturally places on footwear, eliminating distortion.
The Mizuno Wave Rider 18 retails for $119.99 and is available now. If you are looking for a new running shoe, or looking for an alternate shoe, take a look at the Wave Rider 18 model. It provides the best of the minimalist shoe and a supportive shoe.

Do you run in Mizuno?
