Friday Wants for October 25

  1. To learn how to follow-through. I have never mastered the follow-through.
imagesI kick ass at starting things. Finishing things and sticking with them? Not so much.
  2. To visit Mongolian Grill soon. I love making my own stir fry and I have not been there in ages. Time to visit again I think.
  3. Here is a throwback Friday Want from September 2011. This shirt.
  4. I want the following movies to get here FASTER. Patience has never been my strong suit.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – out on December 13, 2013

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – out on November 22, 2013

Divergent – out on March 21, 2014

What do YOU want today??

Friday Wants for October 11

Almost all of my running clothing is from Target. My running shorts, pants, base layer, mid layer, sports bras…all from Target. Who doesn’t love Target, seriously? Plus, their running gear is priced so I can afford it. Really, I cannot afford a $75 base layer top. No way in hell is that happening. But I can afford a $25 base layer top.

Because of my love for Target running clothing. Here is my winter running want list:

This compression shirt:

This jacket:

These tights:

Or these tights:

Since I will be training for marathon #2 this winter, I need to make sure that I have enough running gear to get me through it!

Where do you get your running clothes? What is your favorite piece of winter running gear?

Friday Wants for September 27

It is hard to believe that it is hard to come up with Friday Wants sometimes. I mean, doesn’t everyone want something all the time? There are the easy things that I would like; more money, house updates, debt paid off, newer car, working less hours…but since none of these will happen I move on.

Here are the things that I could come up with today.

Race Ambassador

I don’t want to let anyone down during my Ambassador roll for the Medical Mutual Glass City Marathon.
Glass-City-Marathon-Ambassador-LogoMy 30-week marathon training plan begins next week and while I know I’ll have trouble getting back into the swing of things after babying my knee this year and trying to take it easy, I am really looking forward to it. I really want the people who think they can’t run a race, let alone a marathon, know that with proper training starting soon, YOU can run a marathon! Hell, if I can do it, almost anyone can!

I really want to get back to my eating plan, which basically means portion control and laying off of the baked goods. I have a total weakness for any baked good. I LOVE them and they are my downfall if they are near me. I need to practice self control and remember to keep my eyes on the prize. Fall is usually loaded with baked goods, well, the holiday’s are too, so this time is crucial to my success!

I want to get on a workout class schedule to keep each week. I want to hit up some body sculpting classes each week at the YMCA so I can help to keep my knee and body strong for my upcoming marathon. I have yet to go to a YMCA class but I am excited to get started already!

What do YOU want today?

Friday Wants for September 6

Can you believe we are already a week into September?  This year has really been flying by. It is true what they say, when you get older the years get shorter! Today is my favorite kind of Friday, payday Friday. All seems right with the world when today rolls around.
I have an exciting week ahead of me and I can’t wait for it!

Monday Jeff and I are going to check out getting a membership to our local YMCA. This means exercise classes, weight lifting and swimming!
Wednesday we are having dinner with my grandparents at P.F. Chang’s. I LOVE this place and only get there once a year typically.
Thursday I am meeting with a local race director to talk about adding something new to the race. And I’ll be celebrating all day, because that is my 32nd birthday.

So, what do I want today?
I want this meeting with the race director to go well on Thursday!  I am so excited to share some news about it next week.

I want to find more tofu recipes. I am digging tofu, but I only have two recipes for it right now. Have any to share?

I wouldn’t mind getting this: Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. My hair doesn’t typically do anything but straight. It really doesn’t hold a curl and I would love to see if I could put a little texture or wave into it.

Or this: OPI Ski Teal We Drop. I typically only paint my toes because runners toenails are not pretty. Or present half the time. Sometimes I paint my fingers in the winter months and this would be pretty!

How I Stay Organized

As is everyone now a days, I am busy. And I am about to enter into my busiest season at work, football season. I don’t work with the football program on campus, but my office, the alumni office, puts on all of the pre-game tailgates for alumni and friends. Add that into the other 10-15 events I plan over the 3ish month period, and it all equals out to busy.

I have to stay on top of my game and keep organized or else things are forgotten, appointments are missed and then all hell breaks loose. Here are the ways that I stay organized day to day.

Erin Condren Life Planner

A lot of people use an electronic planner on their cell phone these days. I tried for 6 months, but I had a hard time with it. I like to be able to see all of my appointments at once, instead of in a daily format. I had tried the planners that you can get at office supply stores or the grocery stores, and they got the job done, but they were just ho-hum. I was on facebook one day and noticed a friend of mine raving about her planner and after some research I was hooked. I had to have an Erin Condren Life Planner. I had one in 2012 and I have one for this year. I am going to purchase one for next year within the next few months and I already have my cover color scheme picked out. That’s right, you get to totally personalize your cover!  Pattern, fonts, colors, ah, there are so many options! Here is my 2013 cover:
photo-21-1024x1024Like I said, I am in love. It completes me in so many ways. I hate to think of what would happen if I lost it. I use my planner for exercise, personal and work related things. I plan out mileage in advance, I log appointments or things I can’t forget to do on a certain date (like give Bo his heart worm pill), and I keep my work appointments in here too, along with events I am organizing. This is a do-it-all planner for me.

Meal Planning

Here is the sheet that I use for meal planning. DinnerMenuPlanner
You can download it with the link above. Hell, change it up it you want. This is what has worked for me over the past few months. I plan meals on a two-week rotation because I get paid every other Friday. I do my big shopping trips the Saturday after payday and another, much smaller trip, the next Saturday as well. So, my meal planning starts the day after payday and continues until the next payday.

I go through my planner (above) and write out when we won’t be home for dinner, because I primarily use this sheet for dinner planning. I then list all of the meals that I already have on hand, then check the ads and list the meals that I am going to buy that week at the store. I write out which meal will be served on which day and generally it works out fine. Of course we have to change it around due to schedules changing or eating out at the spur of the moment (which doesn’t happen much at all), but things move around easily.

I always have certain meals on hand at all times: (and I’m noticing they are pretty carb-heavy…Hmm)
spaghetti and garlic bread
smoked sausage or chicken
grilled cheese
breakfast: bacon/eggs/toast

I know that I can always fall back on one of those in a pinch.

to-do list

I am addicted to making to-do lists. I make them at work, I make them at home, I make them for everything. Again, I look at my planner to see what I need to accomplish for the day/week/month and make a list. Usually I end up updating my lists daily, but I like to know what I have out there that needs to be done.

blog calendar

I use the monthly view calendar in my Erin Condren Life Planner to schedule blog posts. Sometimes I have too much on my mind and it is nice to know that I have an idea or two to fall back on in a pinch. But, I like to know when I am writing about what. I know that after a life event or race, I’m writing about it, I know on Monday and Friday I have a set post. Basically, I like having a plan and being able to stick to it.

How do you stay organized?
What do you use that helps you stay on track?

Friday Wants for August 23

I would love to take the self study course from American Fitness Professionals & Associates to become a Nutrition & Wellness Consultant.

What would I do with it?
After I would have my certification I would be able to:
*assists clients in healthy eating habits and meeting their weight management and nutritional goals
*offer a sound nutritional plan
*advise and present a balanced nutritional strategy
*discuss and advise on weight management plans
*offer nutritional plans for optimizing health

I would love to have this kind of knowledge tucked away in my brain. I know how big of a difference it would make in my life, so I can only imagine how much I could help other people with this information. I have looked into being a dietitian before and while it is really interesting, it just wasn’t for me. This certification is right up my alley and I would love to do it!
What is stopping me?
The $420 price tag.  Yes, that is a lot of money. I would look at it as an investment in my health and my future, but money doesn’t grow on trees anymore, so I’ll have to save up for this.

Friday Wants for August 16

I really want to join a gym. I used to belong to one, St. Julian’s Fitness.

And it was amazing. Small, adult only, and had amazing facilities. But at $42 per month it was a bit more than I was looking to spend. So I was only there 6 months or so.

There is another gym in the same shopping center that I have had my eye on for a little while. Fitness 4 All.

If you pay month to month, this place is $25 per month. Or $20 per month with a one-year commitment. What I would like to do would be to join for the year, train like mad, then look like a rock star in a year.

Possible?  Sure.
The only thing holding me back is money. Ah, the root of all evil.
I would love to go in and join tomorrow, but the $20 per month is holding me back. Not because it is going to break the bank account – so I eat lunch out once less per month, and I stop buying stuff I don’t need at the grocery store, there is the $20 per month, easily. I just don’t want it to be a thing that I start and then quit because I have no follow-through. I don’t want it to go to waste.

Do you belong to a gym?
How often do you visit?
