Hands-Free Hipster Jogging Leash Review

I love taking my Bo on short runs with me. It gets him out of the house, he gets exercise, and I think that it makes him happy. After a run he smothers me in kisses and I believe they are thank you kisses.

A few months ago I found out that I have a decent sized herniated disc in the L5-S1 region of my spine. This translates to the very low back. Most people with this type of herniation experience pain or numbness in the legs and very few people experience actual back pain from this back injury. I am one of the few who doesn’t get any leg pain in any way and I am cursed with some extreme back pain in that part of my spine. It can completely incapacitate me and I have it so much. I feel like I am completely worthless when I have trouble doing anything normal.

This all means that I haven’t run with Bo since I received this diagnosis. Bo doesn’t just run, he pulls…with extreme force. I am scared that he is going to dart side to side, like he always does, and put too much pressure on the bad part of my back and cause pain. He has done it before and I don’t want it to happen again. So, we have taken a few walks to try and break my fears of hurting my back. Naturally, this all excites Bo. The instant I even reach for his leash he begins to lose his mind in joy.2014-12-14 08.09.25

I was sent the Hands-Free Hipster Jogging Leash to try out with Bo. I thought that having Bo attached to my core instead of by an arm may be a good way to help my fear of hurting my back again. I tried it on and it was seriously comfortable. When we walked there wasn’t any uncomfortable chaffing or spots on the belt that were tight when Bo pulled me. The leash is included in the box and the belt has pockets for your keys, some cash or even a cell phone can fit. I tucked a few small dog treats in the pocket and Bo really dug that of course!

At $34.95, the Hipster leash is a fantastic value for dog owners who want running with their dog to be more comfortable. Do you know a runner who takes their dog out for runs? This would be an amazing gift and a nice way to free up a runners’ hands during a run. Through this side, the Hipster Leash is only $29.95 with FREE shipping right now!

If you have any questions, or you have tried out the leash yourself, then please let me know!
I highly recommend this product for any runner, or even walker, that enjoys taking their dog out for some 1-on-1 time out on the streets.

Random Pictures Edition

I know that I’ve said it 100334 times in the past few months, but holy busy. I can’t find the time (or I am really struggling to make the time) for certain things in my life. Blogging being one of them. Luckily, after this weekend, my craziness settles down!

A few weeks ago the microwave started giving off an electrical/burning smell. Naturally we watched and waited for it to die. And it never died and never smelled like that again. Other than being a place for our toaster oven to live, it is an integral piece of kitchen equipment. I got to thinking, and this microwave is over 16 years old. I am probably jinxing myself by putting this out there, but 16 is a long time, right?

I was digging through my night stand and found my grandma’s old bible. She has passed away, but I found this picture inside of it. My grandma is on the left, looking quite fetching if I do say so. This was most likely taken in the 1930’s. Isn’t it amazing how fashion changes?

I was in New York City last week for work and my hotel room had the most amazing view. I looked directly down on Times Square. I was pretty impressed. Thankfully the hotel is smart enough to know just how bright Times Square is and had black out shades for the windows.
2014-11-06 21.18.54And just to close out on a cute note, here is my Bo. He was excited when I came home from my business travel last weekend and didn’t let me out of his sight all weekend. I caught this cute face when he was napping on me.
2014-11-02 17.17.59-1How old is your microwave? 16 is crazy old if you ask me. I am so scared it is going to die now that I said this out loud…

Bo Knows Running

There is nothing better than the feeling you get after a good workout.
I have been consistently lifting over the past few months, but I am adding in a lot more cardio lately. Not as much as I’d like, but more. And more of most things is always better! I try to involve Bo in my short runs when I can. It gets him out of the house, gets him some exercise and I think it is a nice way to show him that I like spending time with him. If dogs think that way, that is.
Bo is a smart little shit, too smart at times. He knows that when he wears his invisible fence collar he can’t leave the yard. He also knows that when he squeezes out of the door, and his invisible fence collar isn’t on, that he can run out of the yard. He knows the difference.
He also knows that when I pull clothes from my exercise clothes drawer, I am going running or out.
He knows when I pull my running shoes off of the shelf, he has a chance to run with me.
And when he sees the collar and harness come out, he knows to go ape shit because he gets to run!

I put his harness on last night after I returned home from the gym and before I could do anything else, he grabbed his leash and ran around the kitchen. I think it was to let me know to hurry my ass up, and that he was pretty amped to get out.

2014-09-25 10.10.25I knew it would be a shorter run, especially since Bo hasn’t been out running in awhile, I didn’t want to wear him out too much.
There are a few secluded sidewalks that wind along a creek that runs through our neighborhood. When I can, I run there. It is peaceful and I like the alone-time honestly. On a Bo run, I let him call the shots most of the time. If he wants to stop and stare at the bushes because he heard something, I stop with him. If he wants to stop and stare at the white dogs we always pass on our runs, I stop with him. And when he wants to haul ass on the secluded sidewalks that wind along the creek, I haul ass with him.

2014-09-25 10.11.49We only ran around 1.5 miles. Like I said, I didn’t want to go too far for his first time out in months. He was beat by the time we got home, and extremely thirsty. After he downed a bowl of water, he laid on the floor to cool off. I crouched down to pet him and he popped up to give me a big ‘ol kiss. I know that this was a thank you kiss for taking him out running. How do I know? Because Bo is my dude and we can communicate through our thoughts. Really? Hell no, I just want to believe that this was a thank you kiss. (It was).

2014-09-25 10.12.53I can feel a difference in running since I lost almost 40#. It is easier to get my butt moving and I am really not getting tired as easily. My heart is still giving me the same inefficiency at high heart rate issue, so that won’t ever change. It was great running in this cooler fall weather and I foresee many more runs with Bo in the future!

Bo’s 3rd Birthday

My little guy turned three yesterday! I cannot believe that he has been mine for almost three years!
Bo is my shadow at home. If I am in the room, he is there too. If I am in bed sleeping, he is too. He is amazing with handing out the cuddles and kisses. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect dog for myself and the family.

I took him out yesterday after work to celebrate at PetSmart. We walked everywhere and he smelled it all!

We spent some time in the toy aisle but he didn’t get excited about any of it. I haven’t bought him an actual toy in well over a year. Anything soft and fluffy is destroyed in mere minutes and he doesn’t get into ropes and stuff like that. Bo’s ‘toy’ of choice is a huge bone that takes him 5 weeks to chew on. One thing I have learned about Bo over three years is that he is a chewer. Never of furniture. Bo just likes to chew my things. Glasses (two pairs), night guard, library book, my food…the list goes on. Bo likes MY things. So, I have focused on getting him toys that fulfill his need and love to chew.

This is what we ended up with. The mini knotted bones on the left are not really a birthday treat, these are a staple in the house for my pup. The mini treats on the bottom right are staples too, for when he does good things.  Anyways, the actual gifts we got were the giant bone and the rawhide twists. He loves these giant bones and it takes him months sometimes to eat them!

He was also in puppy heaven yesterday because I let him stick his cute little head out the window to catch a face-full of wind on the way home.

He tried one of each of his new treats and proceeded to take a two hour nap. Seriously? But when he woke up he was ready to play! I know I didn’t get to make my boy’s birthday special, but I hope he knows that I love him everyday, not just on his birthday.

Do you do anything special for your pet on their birthday?
Do you even know your pet’s birthday?
Am I nuts because I do?

It Can’t Get Much Worse, Right?

Another House Revolt

Not only did four things break and need repaired in the month of May, but the pipes under the sink decided to crack and leak on Tuesday night as well. OHMYGOODNESSICAN’TTAKEANYMORE! The house is almost 40 years old and this is a great age for things to break or rust out or rot in the house. Basically making this a really crummy time to own a house in this condition. This is all really trying my patience right now. Luckily we were able to get someone out to fix the leak on Tuesday night before it got much, much worse. Brian, my plumber for the evening, said it was smart to fix it right away. If I had waited until the next day to fix it he said it could have been a semi-gushing leak. UGH. Now, instead of metal pipes, I am the proud owner of pvc pipes. Hopefully I don’t have to mess with this for a long time.

Locked Out

Last week I took Bo to the vet for some heartworm bloodwork then stopped at Domino’s to pick up an easy Friday night dinner. I grabbed my wallet and headed in for my pizza. I came back out and the door was locked, I searched for my keys and they were in the car. IN THE CAR. Along with my cell phone. I was locked out. I have free roadside assistance with my insurance BUT we have a new insurance company and didn’t have cards yet. I have no number! I was able to get the number and have someone come out to break into my car. Bo was a bit whiny at first when he locked himself in, but calmed down since I stood next to the door for 45 minutes. The people at Domino’s were amazing! They offered me a chair, took my pizza’s inside to keep warm, and when the guy came to break into my car, they told me they were remaking my pizza’s so I could have fresh ones and they brought Bo a cup of water when he was freed. Holy cow, they are amazing there! I cannot even begin to tell you how great the staff is at the Domino’s in Perrysburg, Ohio. I highly suggest a visit, not only because their pizza is seriously delicious and I get it almost every Friday night, but because their staff showed how I’m not just another customer. Neither is Bo.

2014 has NOT been the year of Amanda so far.
I am ready for some big changes.

Our House Decided to Mutiny

The Friday of Memorial Day weekend was a great day and I was ready to wash my car. We had just purchased car washing stuff for the house and I wanted to break it in. I connected the hose, filled the bucket, yada yada, then went into the house to check on Bo and found about a 1/2″ of water in the laundry room. I checked behind the washer and sure enough, the water was spraying out of a pipe right into the laundry room. You may remember that we had a frozen pipe in January during the polar vortex, well this leaky pipe is directly connected to that one. Luckily this pipe only leaks when the faucet outside is turned on. You bet your ass we aren’t using that one right now.

The fun continued around the house that weekend because when I turned on the furnace to take the chill out of the air on Saturday, it wouldn’t turn on. No heat. Perfect. This wasn’t the worst news because this isn’t the season where heat is crucial to living. Just for kicks, we turned on the air conditioning to test it out. That wasn’t turning on either. Again, luckily this isn’t the season where air conditioning makes live easier.

We had an HVAC guy come out and he made some simple fixes to the furnace and the air conditioning and now they both work. We have to schedule a plumber to come out to fix the pipe, but the heating/cooling took precedent of course.

Most people say that bad things happen in 3’s. If that is true then we have hit our magic 3 and we are finished for now.

NOPE. Whoever set the number at 3 has better luck than us.

The dryer stopped heating this past Saturday. It spun and worked otherwise, just no heat. But since the basic function of the dryer is to heat the clothing until dry, this was an issue. I laid my wet clothes out all over the living room and said a lot of nasty things to the dryer. I contacted a company that came out on Sunday and of course it was the MOST expensive part on the dryer that died. The only good thing that came out of this is that he found 2 other small issues that would have broken soon as well. So instead of having to call them out to fix it a few times, all 3 issues were fixed in one visit.

Let’s recap:
Broken
Pipe
Furnace
Air Conditioning
Dryer

Repaired
Furnace
Air Conditioning
Dryer

We only have to fix the pipe and we are back to baseline with the house. If we could only talk to my car about this then I think things would even out. I need a new tire. Or 3.

Contrary to what the house and my car thinks – I am not made of money.

This has been a rough 11 days around here.
