Dave’s Turkey Chase 5k Race Recap

The weather yesterday was simply fantastic. At race time I believe it was in the high 40s. And for the end of November, this is probably 20* warmer than I would have expected it to be. Wearing shorts to a race in the end of November? Unheard of in my book.

This was the inaugural Dave’s Turkey Chase 5k and you would never have known because it was run so smoothly that it felt like it had been around for years and was running like a well oiled machine. The race management company, Run Toledo, puts on such amazing races, that you’d never know that race day is a mix of crazy and crazier, with a side of excitement. I highly suggest any/all of their races.

The Turkey Chase was run in downtown Toledo in a large rectangle. I originally went in thinking that the course was going to bore me a little because I have issues with running in a straight line for too long. BUT, the course was entertaining and I didn’t even care that it was one long stretch. I ran the race with my best friend, Jen, and her dad. I wanted to try and get Jen to a PR as this was only her third ever 5k. I always take the best race pictures (SMH) and I’m always happy to show myself looking like a dork online so here are my shots from the start line.

The course had two water stops and while the crowd support was thin due to it being Thanksgiving and all, but the course didn’t feel empty or quiet at all. I pushed Jen as much as I could during the race, short of literally pushing her. I am proud to have been able to run with her and yell obscenities at her for 3.1 miles. What are friends for, after all.
Again, here are some amazing finish line pictures of me. I obviously saw someone I knew and waved at them…I don’t typically hold my arm like that for finish line pictures…but maybe I should start and make it a theme??

I don’t have much else to say but this was a race that I look forward to making a tradition on my Thanksgiving mornings. I will happily delay my cooking and eating to run Dave’s Turkey Chase 5k next year. Not only was it a great race, but the first 1,500 finishers received a coupon for a free pair of socks at Dave’s Running and also a mug!

I hope you all had a stellar Thanksgiving!

Did you run this race? What did you think?
What kind of swag do you like getting from a race?
