MacQueen’s Run For Your Life 10k 2015 Recap

I love running the same races year after year. Sometimes I see progress and sometimes, not so much.
This was the second year for the MacQueen’s Run For your Life 10k and of course I was there.
Excuse the really crummy picture, but the shirt this year (on the bottom) is just as great as the shirt from 2014. It is a bold color and the graphic is fantastic! The shirt is also crazy soft and comfortable.

The race course was the same as 2014, it is a 5k loop, run twice. It has typical NW Ohio scenery…some farm land, some houses, more farm land and houses. Not overly stimulating, but you get used to it if you live here. One of the great things about this race is the location. MacQueen’s Orchard is an iconic fall destination in the area. The orchard features you-pick for apples and has the best donuts. Seriously, the best. There are donuts waiting for you when you finish the race even!

In 2014 I was in the best shape of my adult life at that time.
I ended up running the 10k in 1:15:12, a 12:07 minute per mile pace. That is actually a really fast pace for me. I had been hitting around 12:30 that summer.

This year was set up to be dreadful. While I am now in the best shape of my adult life, I had just completed one of the busiest weeks of my career at UT, my bad knee was swollen and extremely painful the night before the race, plus I was just dead exhausted.
It turns out that it all worked for me.
I ran the 10k this year in 1:06:45, a 10:45 pace!
What what?!
Yes, that is an 8:27 minute PR!
Excited and proud are not even the words to describe how I feel. This is such a huge time difference and I still can’t believe it happened.
I didn’t walk once during the race…except during water stops so I can actually drink the water instead of wear it…but I don’t count that. The miles in this race are the fastest I have ever run.

I think that my new Mercy Health Glass City Marathon Ambassador shirt is good luck for me! Thankfully, I’ll be wearing it a lot so I hope that it brings me the same luck over the next six months.
2015-10-11 11.06.41RunToledo puts on some stellar races in the area, including the GCM. They run a very smooth race and I know runners are grateful for that.

Tell me about your PR experiences.
Did you have them at the same race or different races?

  1. Holy cow great job!! Most of the time my 5ks get about 1 minute faster than the one before.. I’m about 2 minutes from my under 30 minute goal. 🙂
