Happy 30th to me

I have known for a long time that I was going to get some new ink for my 30th birthday.

After years of thinking, planning, designing, picking all new ideas and thinking them through I came up with 2 tattoos that I wanted to permanently etch into my skin.

Turns out that white ink yellows a lot when it ages in the skin and doesn’t end up looking pretty.  At all.

So that idea was scrapped immediately.

I ended up merging the two tattoos into one and moved it to a new location.  My upper back.

This was taken imemdiately after it was finished so I am all red and sexy looking…as sexy as people’s backs are when they are splotchy.

Each bird represents a member of my family who has passed away who had a significant impact on my life.

Happy 30th to me!

And I am sorry that the final product is not the best picture ever.  But it is what it is for now.  I’m sure I’ll take many more in the future.
But first…my look of fear when I realized what the fuck I was going to do…

  1. I LOVE it! Beautiful and symbolic, everything that a tattoo should be. I’ve been plotting my second for a few years now.

  2. Oh, that is so beautiful. I love it!
I’ve been waiting to get another one. I’m still debating……

  3. I like! Who ended up doing it (you know, since Pierre’s on the lam and all..)?

  4. LOVE it!

  5. Very pretty!

  6. Very pretty! I love the handwriting “font” you chose for the words.

  7. Love the new ink! I’ve been thinking about a third for a while and I think I want to get one after I run my 50 miler. 🙂

  8. Love it! I am super bummed to hear that about white ink, though. I have thought about getting a tatto, but I can never decide on what and wear. I’m really kind of a piercing addict and I’ve run out of viable face space (to still be employable) and anything below my face kind of freaks me out. ANYWAYS, I love you tattoo and I think the symbolism is perfect.
