tape and a video

My half marathon training has been going really well.  I am amazed at how far I ran this weekend and how comfortable I was during the entire thing.  I managed 4.6 miles on Saturday during a beautiful snow fall and another 3.75 on Sunday.

I am proud of myself for doubling my long run on Saturday.  I had not yet pushed myself to do more than 2.3 miles (my normal neighborhood loop).  I am still eons away (or maybe 7 weeks away I hope) from 13.1 miles but I am not going to give up on myself.

But the muscle pain I felt a month ago has come back.  But in my other foot.  So I knew it was something in the way I run that was causing this muscle to hate me.  I went to the podiatrist today and he gave me some good advice.  As well as a tape job.

The tape is meant to act as a support so I can get the feel of what an orthotic would feel like when I walk.  And I will be able to test it out tonight to see how it feels when I run.  Basically…I over-pronate.  A lot.  A super lot.

And some orthotics would help this issue and would help this muscle to stop plaguing me when I run.

Mildly interesting, right!?

As of now I have only walked around all taped up in some work shoes and it feels tighter and like my foot doesn’t move as much. I am supposed to wear the taping for 3ish days.  So I will have plenty of time to really get a feel for it.

I ran a total of 11 miles last week which is my highest mileage week.  Ever.  And I know I need to keep my train moving because I have to work up to quite a bit more!

  1. I started feeling some serious discomfort (I’m loathe to use the word “pain”) in my arch after my second long run, when I broke the 8 mile mark. I kept pushing through and then ended up going to get some arch support orthotics after consulting with the podiatrist on staff with my training group. They took a few runs to get used to, and they still feel a little weird, but no more post-run pain!

  3. I got orthotics and did not like them. I found it hard to find shoes that they fit in to and they HURT if you aren’t mindful about breaking them in!! I hardly wear them *$400 later…haha
